Mary Margaret Powrie is a filmmaker, writer and festival programmer whose practice is rooted in archive and memory, and whose work reflects themes of family, resilience and legacy.
Her film, DocSam, is a personal portrait of her 96-year-old father, Dr. Semeon B. Hrushovetz, a Winnipeg physician, researcher and host of the 1990s television program Health and Longevity. The film explores DocSam’s life and legacy through archival footage and family visuals and reflections.
Her film will screen as part of Doc Now 2026.
