Multimedia Installation
Jessica Wu is a visual artist with a background in journalism and documentary studies. She is interested in retracing stories of immigration through cultural, political and historical lenses to address ever-entangled questions of identity and diaspora.
Her work, Sparrows (麻雀) explores the ways in which diasporic members organize mahjong games as a means to create community, negotiate identity, and counter dominant political discourses.
The multimedia work, which invites audiences to sit at a mahjong table and interact, will be featured at Whippersnapper Gallery, 594B Dundas St. West, Toronto from June 18 until June 30 as part of Doc Now 2026.
Opening Night: June 18, 6-9pm, Whippersnapper.
Her exhibition film will also screen at Doc Now.
Film screening: June 17 at Paradise Theatre
